Ewa Don-Siemion panelist at the UA Law Reunion Weekend Speaker Series

On October 20, 2018, the Catholic University of America hosted the UA Law Reunion Weekend Speaker Series in Washington devoted to “Cross-Border Lawyering in the Digital Age” in recognition of 15th anniversary of CUA’s LL.M. in American Law conducted in cooperation with Jagiellonian University, and 27 years of the International Business and Trade Summer Law Program in Krakow.

The Reunion’s program included two panel discussions on cross border legal work and the impact of technology and globalization on the legal profession. European and American panel participants explored the competences and connections that support successful cross-border lawyering.

Ewa Don-Siemion, founding partner of CDZ Legal Advisors, talked about legal process outsourcing with an emphasis on Krakow, as a top business services center location Poland. Other panel participants included, among others, Matthew Majkut, Director of the Privacy & Cybersecurity Solutions Group at Paul Hastings LLP; Vincenzo Senatore, founding partner of GSA Law Firm; and Jerzy Pisulinski, Dean of the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Law and Administration.

Inspections in your company: how to brace yourself?

On 21 September 2018, CDZ and the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency organized a workshop where answers to those questions were presented.

Weronika Papucewicz and Ewa Don-Siemion elaborated on how to deal with the State Labor Inspection Office (PIP), Social Security Authority (ZUS) and Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) inspections and spoke about the best practices in defending the company’s interests before the Labor Court.

CDZ on GDPR in employment law

On 28 June 2018, CDZ and the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency organized a labor law business breakfast focusing on GDPR in employment law titled “Life after 25 May. Case studies gathered by CDZ during GDPR implementations”.

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz presented issues related to GDPR in HR, personal data processing contracts, granting authorizations to employees, employee images and video surveillance in the company.

The event was attended mainly by representatives of companies from the business services sector, such as 3M, ACN Europe, Ryanair, Toya, and UTC Aerospace Systems.

Ewa Don-Siemion speaker at the 8th ASPIRE Annual Conference devoted to the business services industry

On 15 May 2018 the 8th ASPIRE Annual Conference was held with the key theme: "Brave New Word" which explored the potential and likely impacts of the digital revolution on politics and economics, industry verticals and business models, as well as on business processes and people.

The Aspire Industry Summit focused on five key plenary sessions: Why New Brave Word? What the future looks like? i-Disruption: What it means for us? Racing the machine – we still need people, right? What will happen when robots steal our jobs?

During one of the afternoon break-out sessions, Ewa Don-Siemion discussed the rise of the legal outsourcing and its impact on the legal market, and answered the question why Krakow should grab this opportunity.

CDZ on the revolution in Polish employment law

On 10 April 2018, CDZ and the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency organized a labor law business breakfast titled “A Revolution in Polish Employment Law? Draft Labor Codes Published”.

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz presented issues related to the origin of the new provisions, the rationale behind the Individual and Collective Labor Codes and the ramifications of their origin. In the wake of press reports announcing that the government has abandoned the draft new codes, Ewa and Weronika also discussed how the drafts may be used in the future and answered the question why employees must continue to be vigilant.

On 22 February 2018, the Sofitel Wroclaw Old Town Hotel hosted a labor law business breakfast on hiring and terminating employment contracts from the series “Hard cases made easy | Employment Law Workshops for HR Managers”.

Mariusz Busiło a panelist at the Central European Electronic Digital Payments Conference

On December 12-13 2017 in Warsaw, the 10th Central European Digital Payments conference was held with the key theme: "Payments more convenient for customers than ever". The conference covered such issues as Commerce Mobility – FinTech –  RegTech –  Identity –  Security.

The CEDP conference is the largest annual meeting of Polish and foreign experts in card systems of various applications and modern payment methods. This year the conference participants discussed such topics as smart mobile payments, modern payments in Smart City solutions and IoT, e-commerce development and modern payment methods, artificial intelligence in payment applications, digital money of the digital world, Science-Business-FinTech cooperation and the development of payment technology.

Mariusz Busiło, a CDZ lawyer specializing in TMT law, participated in a specialist session on “Electronic identity, trust services, authentication and identification and modern payment methods”, where he discussed issues of e-identity and presented a review on governmental and selected alternative solutions.

The conference was co-organized by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń under the patronage of the Council of Bank Card Issuers (the Polish Bank Association), the Polish Chamber of Information Science and Telecommunications, the Polish Chamber of Commerce, the Polish Standardization Committee, the Polish Union of Loan Funds. Mariusz Busiło a panelist at the 5G, EMF & Health conference

On December 5 2017, Warsaw hosted an international workshop on Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Ministry of Digital Affairs of Poland.

The program comprised such issues as challenges, opportunities and setting the framework for 5G EMF and health; EMF, health research & future needs; the implications of 5G of EMF limits for 5G Network Rollout.

Mariusz Busiło, a CDZ lawyer specializing in telecommunications law and an expert in electromagnetic fields issues at the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications (PIIT), represented the Polish telecommunications operators in a panel session on EMF, 5G and Health in Poland.

Other keynote speakers included representatives from the Ministry of Digital Affairs in Poland, WHO, ICNIRP, Huawei, Ericsson, ATDI, Nokia, GSMA, Czestochowa University of Technology, the National Institute of Telecommunications.

CDZ on background checks

On 24 October 2017, CDZ and the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency (ARAW) organized a labor law business breakfast on “Partial legalization of background checks and other changes in personal data protection in employment”.

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz presented on issues including background checks of job candidates and employees – a bill prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development, the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on employment-related processes, and the Directive 2016/943 on the protection of undisclosed know-how and business information.

The event was attended mainly by companies from the business services sector, such as Capgemini, Electrolux, Nokia, 3M, LG Innotek, and Ocado.

On October 26, 2017 the ASPIRE board hosted the Legal Committee comprising law firms specializing in labor law for the BPO/SSC sector. They presented the most important legal issues related to operating business services centers in Poland.

Ewa Don-Siemion, CDZ Partner, talked on issues related to working time flexibility, employment contracts and employee data protection.

On Tuesday 27 June 2017, CDZ and the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency (ARAW) organized a breakfast with labor law on “Flexible Forms of Work Organization. Practical aspects of employee mobility” for BPO/SSC companies in Wroclaw. Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz presented on issues including ways to make working time more flexible, task-based working time system, mobile employees, and home office vs. telework.

The participants of the event included NOKIA, Electrolux, 3M, MERCK, UPS, KINNARPS, Parker Hannifin, Redknee, among others.

On 27 April 2017, the Sofitel Wroclaw Old Town Hotel hosted a labour law business breakfast on “Employee benefits. How to construct bonus schemes and other incentive systems”

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz presented on issues including the functions and components of remuneration, determination of remuneration for a specific job position, and employee performance benefits. They also discussed how to construct a bonus system.

Weronika Papucewicz to speak at Employment Law Forum to take place in Warsaw on 7 and 8 June 2017

The forum organized by the Puls Biznesu daily will focus on present regulations and planned amendments to employment law. The forum’s agenda will include such issues as non-compete clauses and unfair competition; types of contracts and minimum wage rates; mobbing and discrimination; and working time and overtime management.

Weronika will present the flexible forms of employment and selected issues connected with entering into a civil law contract instead of an employment contract.

Andrzej Abramczuk panelist at the Telecommunications, Internet, Media, Electronics Economic Forum in Warsaw

The 9th TIME Economic Forum is a joint project of the National Chamber of Commerce of Electronic Industry and Telecommunication (KIGEiT) and the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications (PIIT).

The theme of this year’s edition, which took place in March 2017, was “Artificial Intelligence – evolution or revolution?”. Special guests of the event included Mateusz Morawiecki, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Development; Anna Streżyńska, the Minister of Digitization; and Marcin Cichy – the President of the Polish Office of Electronic Communications.

The forum consisted of two-day panel sessions where major TMT companies in the Polish market, experts and academics discussed tools and diagnostic systems in the era of AI, Europe’s strategy for the digitizing industry and universal broadband access infrastructure for the development of innovation in the 4.0 era. Andrzej Abramczuk participated in the “E-state: Intelligent Public Services” session along with the representatives of Asseco Data Systems, MCX Systems, Huawei and Orange.

Andrzej Abramczuk speaks at the 17th Telecommunication and Media World Symposium in Warsaw

On 28 and 29 March 2017, the Sheraton Hotel in Warsaw hosted the 17th edition of the Telecommunication and Media World Symposium, one of the key meetings of the telecommunications and media sectors in Poland, attended by representatives of the TMT sector, the government, and solution and new technology providers. This year’s edition attracted more than 550 participants.

Andrzej Abramczuk was a panelist during the Telecommunication and Media World Regulations session along with representatives of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Facebook, the National Broadcasting Council, and the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications. They discussed such issues as the Personal Data Protection Act, data retention, the E-privacy Directive, asset concentration, and pluralism of content and regulations which affect the commercial market.

Andrzej Abramczuk a panelist at the Word Telecom Smart City Conference in Taipei

On 21-24 February 2017, Taipei (Taiwan) hosted the fourth edition of Smart Summit & Expo focusing on Building Smart Cities on the IoT.

During the event The Word Telecom Smart City Conference took place, where representatives of telecom service providers, public and academic organizations talked about such issues as smart cities and the role of telecom operators, the technology impact on the society, opportunities and challenges for TELCOS in IoT Wave. Andrzej Abramczuk participated as a panelist on TELCO’S strategy and planning in a LoT area panel discussion moderated by Dr. Chun-Ting Chou, Associate Professor of National Taiwan University.

Piotr Kryczek and Weronika Papucewicz speak at the 7th National Congress for Headmasters of Non-Public Schools

The 7th National Congress for Headmasters of Non-public Schools, held in Warsaw on 21st October 2016, was attended by headmasters and owners of non-public schools and preschools in Poland.

The congress focused on such issues as the calculation of subsidy amounts in light of present and future regulations; controversies regarding subsidy spending; and audit and administrative and court proceedings for subsidy refunds.

The CDZ representatives, Piotr Kryczek and Weronika Papucewicz, presented on the issue of managing the teaching and non-teaching staff in non-public schools; they discussed, among other things, various types of employment contracts, remuneration systems, and employee leave for teachers.

Mariusz Busiło participated in the seminar “New Institutionalism, Theories and Research” at the Public Affairs Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences

The discussion during the first seminar in the 2016/17 cycle, held on 20 October, focused on the anatomy of the reforms of the Polish state as seen by their “engineers”.

The seminar’s keynote speaker was Professor Antoni Kamiński, who presented on “The 1997-2001 Reforms of the State Healthcare System”. The reforms’ author, Elżbieta Hibner, Ph.D., Eng. elaborated on the subject. Mariusz Busiło presented a lecture on the legislative process and practical aspects of law-making in Poland.

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz speak at the ABSL Krakow Chapter HR Corner

On 12 October 2016, a quarterly meeting of Krakow HR Corner took place at Brown Brothers Harriman’s Krakow office. The event was addressed to companies from the BPO/SSC sectors and was dedicated to labor law and soft HR issues.

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz spoke about labor law and new communication technologies, in particular social media in HR managers’ work and in the workplace; the assignment of company property to employees and the risks that this poses to the employer; and modern working time registration methods.

Mariusz Busiło keynote speaker at the Smart Grid Security Summit 2016

This year’s Smart Grid Security Summit 2016, geared towards utilities, regulators, the Polish Ministry of Energy, researchers and vendors, was held in Gdansk. It focused on two key areas: threats to the grid and the data within it, understanding the present and the future of the threat landscape; the most effective and comprehensive approaches to mitigating such threats; as well as other security-related case studies.

Keynote speakers included Andrzej Kaźmierski, Head of the Renewable Energy Sources Department at the Polish Ministry of Energy. Mariusz Busiło, representing the Mazovia Cluster ICT and the CDZ TMT Team, discussed the Polish legal framework with respect to smart grid data collection and processing, and how it should be changed in order to reflect the need for security, standardization and transparency in the industry.

CDZ a partner to the 7th ABSL Conference "Transforming Ourselves. Changing the World"

CDZ has participated as a substantive partner in the 7th ABSL Conference "Transforming Ourselves. Changing the World", which took place on 27 and 28 June 2016 in Katowice. The annual conference is the most important event of the business services sector in Central and Eastern Europe.

This year’s conference was attended by 1,000 participants from the sector, including representatives of municipal authorities and special economic zones who analyzed the changes, challenges and improvements ahead for the modern business service organizations in Poland and the CEE countries.

One of the keynotes addressed the impact of Brexit on the sector’s development. The special guests included Condoleezza Rice, who talked about the risks and opportunities for the global economy in the context of the current geopolitical shifts, and Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and Minister of Development, who spoke about foreign investments in the sustainable development plan for Poland.

During the Senior Executive Breakfast for the BPO/SSC leaders, Ewa Don-Siemion, CDZ Partner, talked about the impact of recent changes in the political and legal environment for foreign investments in the BPO/SSC sectors in Poland, with a particular emphasis on the influence of these changes on the labor market and employer rights.

Ewa Don-Siemion and Weronika Papucewicz speak at the 6th ASPIRE Annual Conference devoted to the BPO/SSC industry in Krakow

ASPIRE’s Annual Conference, scheduled to take place on the 11th to 12th May 2016 in Krakow, will showcase the impact of the BPO/SSC sectors on the local economy, and the opportunities and challenges that these developments present in the near future.

The participants are companies and individuals from the global business services and technology industry, governmental and administration bodies, academia and the NGO sector, as well as real estate funds and potential investors investigating the dynamics of the CEE market.

The one-and-a-half-day conference will be dedicated to plenary and break-out sessions, demo labs and exhibitions. Andrzej Abramczuk participates in the Warsaw International Media Summit, held simultaneously with the Broadband Network Conference and the Infrastructural Investments Forum

On 18 and 19 November 2015, Warsaw hosted the 8th edition of the Warsaw International Media Summit Congress, one of the key meetings of the telecommunications and media sectors in Poland. The congress was attended by prominent representatives of the TMT sector and the public administration, and suppliers of solutions and new technologies.

Andrzej Abramczuk, CDZ Partner, Head of the TMT Department, and a Supervisory Board Member of Midas S.A., was a panelist during the “Future of Spectrum in Europe” theme block. The panel focused on pan-European regulations, the course of the frequency tender process in Poland, and frequency auctions in the light of examples from other EU countries. The issue of how the EU may encourage the market to make investments in telecommunications infrastructure was also discussed.

Andrzej Abramczuk also took part in the panel “Protection of consumers’ rights in the telecommunications market”, in which speakers included representatives of the Polish Office of Electronic Communications, the Board of the Polish Consumer Agency, Orange Polska, T-Mobile Polska and the former President of the Polish Antimonopoly Office.

CDZ at the MIPIM International Real Estate Fair in Cannes

CDZ took part in the 26th International Real Estate Event for Property Professionals MIPIM (Le marché international des professionnels de l’immobilier), which was held between 10 and 13 March 2015 in Cannes, France.

MIPIM is a premier real estate event that attracts approximately 21,000 of the most influential players from all sectors of the international property industry for four days of networking, learning and transaction through premium events, conferences and dedicated exhibition zones. The event is an excellent opportunity to become up to date with trends and developments in the global real estate market.

Szymon Skiendzielewski, CDZ Partner, spoke about an innovative approach to neighbor agreements in conflicts between investors. CDZ also took part in a discussion panel on the development of the BPO and SSC sector in individual regions in Poland.

CAREER
